About Us
Shola McCarthy founded Fund a Family Foundation in Febraury 2009. A 501c3 non-profit organization that was orginially designed to. We started this helping families like ourselves in financial need. I am a loving father of 3 wonderful children. My daughter Mikayla is the oldest. I was a single parent until she was 14 years of age. I took it as a sign that I wouldn't have anymore children and be happy with what I had. I keep having this dream that I would one day marry an African woman and she would bare a son by me. Now many know our family history knows that it seemed to be impossible. We all thought we was cursed. My poppa was a rolling stone having 6 boys by 5 different women. All the boys produced nothing but girls 8 to be exact until that dream.
I use to go into 7-eleven 2 times a week in hopes to win that lottery. An African clerked asked, "Shola, what do you plan to do if you win all of that money?" I looked him square in the eyes and as serious as a heart attack and said, " I'm going to the motherland to meet my queen and she will have my son and I will become the riches and most powerful black man on the planet!" Once he realized I was serious he told me he had the perfect woman for me. 10 months later we was married. Around another 18 months the curse was broken. My 1st born son was born March 28th, 2008. Chinedu Akin-Shola McCarthy which means [God leads a warrior king son of the loving one]. He was my greatest joy and one of my father's proudest moments before he past RIP.
Two years after the birth of my 1st born came the surprise to use all. Another boy on October 22nd, 2010 Tobechi Jireh McCarthy was born. His name means [Praising God my provider son of the loving one]. But he came in this world with all kinds of problems and we knew nothing about them. He spent his 1st week of life in ICU even though he was a full term baby. The doctor sprung the news to us for the 1st time. He said, "Did anyone tell you that your son would be born with downs syndrome? Do you know what that is? We believe that your son may have Downs based of some of his facial features." I had to keep telling myself don't panic this is a mistake. His face is just swollen how can they tell really? I put my faith in God not in man. Then it all hit me. God's divine plan. We was living in Allen, TX a place I had said on many occasion I would die before I moved. God un-harden my heart to finally move. The my wife took a job new to her as a director working with mentally challenged adults dealing with mental retardation, autism, and downs syndrome. Our Pastor, Pastor Micheal Epps gave a chilling story about his son with downs just 2 months before my son was born. I have come to realize that God wanted us to move to Desoto to get a better understanding of downs syndrome and how to coupe with it. To learn to accept patient and love support our son who was to be born with Trisomy21 commonly known as Downs Syndrome. God is the greatest! The test results are in it confirmed the doctor's theory he has Trisomy21 commonly known as Downs syndrome.
To end this is to start this. A capital campaign for my son and children like him. We can only hope and pray that you will find it in your heart and show us your support. We thank you and we love you!
